LEIGH and HINDLEY CIRCUIT POLICY
Part of the Bolton and Rochdale District of the Methodist Church

WORKING TOGETHER IN THE LEIGH AND HINDLEY CIRCUIT

The Leigh and Hindley Circuit is a group of 14 Methodist Churches: Astley, Atherton Central, Bag Lane, Bamfurlong, Bedford, Culcheth, Glazebury, Hindley Green, Ince, Kingsleigh, St John’s, Tyldesley, Westleigh and Wigan Road.

The churches are grouped into five sections, each led by a presbyteral minister. They retain their individual identities but come together in the Circuit for mutual support and to do those things they could not do on their own.

POLICY FOR ACTION

The Circuit agreed a policy document in 1999 which has been the framework for many achievements for the Circuit and in individual churches but it is right that we should review it in the light of changes in society and new relationships, such as in the Anglican — Methodist Covenant.

This updated policy is more than a statement of intent. It provides a framework for action both for our collective work in the Circuit and for individual churches.

OUR VISION

Our vision is that we will be a strong, growing, innovative Circuit, which places God at the centre of things, is confident in sharing the gospel, provides alike for the needs of people of at! ages both in our churches and in our communities and works to make the world a better place for everyone.

In working to achieve this vision we pray that we wilt be given the grace and wisdom to set ourselves challenging but realistic objectives and pursue them with intellectual, moral and spiritual integrity.

ECUMENICAL RELATIONSHIPS

We take seriously Christ’s prayer that “they all should become one” and commit to a vision of one Church for one World, sharing in a common life with all Christian people, seeking the full visible unity of the Church and working in partnership with churches of all traditions and denominations. In particular we welcome the Anglican-Methodist Covenant.

THE METHODIST CONNEXION

The Circuit is part of the wider Methodist Connexion and in establishing our policy we have been guided by its priority “to proclaim and affirm its conviction of God’s love in Christ, for us and for all the world; and renew confidence in God’s presence and action in the world and in the Church.”
