Admission of Alex Laing to the office of a Local Preacher.
John Wesley recognised that some people were called to preach the Gospel and he appointed them to the work, (probably encouraged by his mother following the unexpected preaching of Thomas Maxwell at the 'Foundry' in the 1740's!)
Methodist Local Preachers are called by God and trained to lead God's people in worship.
After their initial training and approval by the Circuit Meeting, they are admitted during an act of worship to the office of a Local Preacher.
The office of a Local Preachers is a permanent one, to which a person is admitted only once.
At 6.30pm on Sunday October 16th at Culcheth Methodist Church, we will be holding a service for the Admission of Alex Laing as a Local Preacher.
This will be a Circuit Service and will include Holy Communion.
Do come along and support Alex in this service.
